August Feccia was born
in Chiavenna Rocchetta, Piacenza Province, Italy in 1935. He was the
last of twelve children in the family. Father August was ordained
into priesthood on March 17, 1962, on the day of his parents' 50th
anniversary. He held his first Mass in prison. That same year Father
Feccia
came to North America and served as an associate pastor in Chicago
from 1962 to 1965. He was chaplain of the Italian American Federation
from 1965 to 1970.
Father August Feccia was the founder and director of the Italian
Cultural Centre in Illinois from 1970 to 1979. In 1979, he moved
to Edmonton and served as a priest of the Santa Maria Goretti parish,
where he replaced Father Giovanni Bonelli. In 1990, Father Feccia
became director of the Villa Scalabrini in California where he served
until 1998.
Father Feccia arrived in Windsor in 1998 to serve as a pastor of
St. Angela Merici parish. In 1999, one year after his arrival,
Feccia helped found the Scalabrini Charities for the Poor Foundation
which provides financial assistance
to impoverished families in Mexico, India, and the Philippines.
