Athlete and Basketball - Assumption College (which became University of Windsor)

He was a Varsity basketball player, 1953-57, and the Co-Captain in 1957. Howie was an outstanding Lancer player in the 1950s, winning the Conference Championship in 1954. He was the leading scorer on the junior team in 1954, Conference Co-Championship in 1957, with an average 11.9 points per game, 1956-57.

Howie also won the high jump event at the first Assumption College Track & Field meet, in 1957. He was a player for the Tillsonburg Livingstons Basketball team during 1958-1960. He was captain of the Tillsonburg Basketball team in 1959 and a Canadian Championship Finalists.
