Anna Maria Tremonti is the host of the CBC Radio's “The
Current”.
Anna Maria Tremonti was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario. She attended Brennan
High School and then the University of Windsor, graduating in Communication Studies.
Her mother, a retired teacher, was born in Canada and is of Friulan background,
while her father was born in Lorenzago di Cadore (in the province of Belluno).

She began her career at CKEC in New
Glasgow, Nova Scotia in private radio where she spent three years.
She then joined the
CBC in Fredericton as host of the morning show. She was only
twenty four years old when she left New Brunswick for a job
in Edmonton as a city beat reporter. By August of 1983, she was
working for CBC Television and continued with this for nineteen
years. For two years she was correspondent and host for The Fifth
Estate. She has traveled the world, filing documentary reports
from Berlin, London, Jerusalem, and Washington, and has covered
wars and conflict in over thirty countries. Tremonti has received
two Gemini Awards during her career, an Outstanding Achievement
Award from the Toronto Women, in Film and Television, as well
as an honourary Doctorate from the University of Windsor.
