Iginio
(Gino) Sorge was born in July 1935 in Ceprano, Frosinone, Italy.
Gino left Italy from Naples, on the board of Andrea Doria.
He landed in New York, travelled by train to Halifax, and
then to Windsor.
Iginio started to work as a general labourer in
construction
and later as a farm worker. He began work at Windsor’s
Produce in 1956, then at Adolf’s Produce.
He bought Adolf’s in the late 60s. The business was located
on Chatham St. E., close to the old city market.
He ran Adolf’s Produce for six or seven years until Silverstein’s
Produce came up for sale, at which time he took it over,
and gave Adolf’s Produce to his brother-in-law,
Frank Santoro.
Silverstein’s Produce moved to the present location
at 999 E.C. Row South Service Rd, in the fall of 1994.
