Ferguson Jenkins was born in Chatham in 1943
and went on to find fame as one of the greatest baseball players
to ever come out of Canada. In June of 1965 Ferguson signed
a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. He
went on to play with the Cubs, the Rangers and the Red Sox
and was one of only 5 pitchers to win 100 games in each league.
Jenkins was the Male Athlete of the Year in 1967. He was the
first Canadian inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown
New York in 1991. Jenkins has a star on Canada’s Walk
of Fame and is a recipient of the Order of Canada. The Fergie
Jenkins Foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars
for charities in
