In 1998, a group of former residents of the ‘McDougall
Street Corridor’ canvassed current and former residents of
the area to determine the level of interest in holding a neighbourhood
re-union. In 2003 the first celebration of the McDougall Street
Reunion took place. (See Celebrations) The Northstar Cultural Community Centre was established as a non-profit
corporation. The overall goal of the community centre is to establish
a resource and cultural centre to further inter-cultural co-operation
and appreciation of cultural diversity. The centre provides an
opportunity for both youth
and adults to learn about African-Canadian
heritage. The Northstar Cultural Community Centre is the community sponsor
of this website and has committed countless
hours to promoting awareness of the vital contributions of African
Canadians in Windsor and region in this manner.
