Tamia Washington was born in Windsor May 9, 1976 and graduated from Walkerville High School Windsor Centre for the Creative Arts. This talented young singer began singing in church at the tender age of six. She performed in many local productions and talent shows. In 1993 Tamia won the YTV Youth Achievement Award in the Vocal category.

1994 was a very important year for Tamia. She was the recipient of the Steve Ross Music Scholarship and she performed for 75,000 people at a gala to honour Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. Most importantly she met Quincy Jones in 1994 and he asked her to sing the first single from his new album, Q's Jook Joint. The song was entitled You Put A Move On My Heart and it made Tamia Washington a hit and garnered her 3 grammy nominations.

In April of 1998 her debut CD Tamia was released and was a great success. Tamia has gone on to release 5 CDs the latest entitled More. Tamia made her acting debut in the movie Speed2: Cruise Control. She was part of the Ladies First Tour with Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Missy Elliot in 2004. She married NBA basketball star Grant Hill in July of 1999 and they have a daughter Myla Grace.
