John Ronald Smith Junior was born December 13, 1939.
He attended both Mercer Street School and later F. W. Begley School
in Windsor. While attending Hon J.C. Patterson Collegiate he set
records for juvenile track and field. At the age of 17 he joined
the 101st Airborne ‘Screaming Eagles’. While in the
service Smith was a Lightweight Boxing Champion. He also coached
many young athletes in the sport of boxing.
After serving the armed forces John Ronald Smith Jr. worked for

later J. Walter Thompson Advertising. In 2001 his
book Oh Canada, my Canada : impressions of an alien son was published
by Trafford in Victoria, B.C. |

|
Mr. Smith travelled extensively and lived in Guatemala,
Asia, Mexico and Hawaii. He was also the proprieter of a restaurant
in Esquimalt B.C. called Henry's Authentic Hamburgers.
He was married
with three sons, Gregory, Jesse, and Beau. John Ronald Smith or ‘Pud’ as
he was known by friends and family passed away in 2003. Many of
the young men whom he coached and mentored sang his praises at
his funeral celebration. |
